💞 Romantic Movies for the Evening: A Selection That Makes You Want to Live

Well, you know, sometimes you just want to exhale, brew something tasty, and turn on a movie to let your soul rest. Without strain, without explosions, just something warm and genuine. Perfect if it’s about love. This doesn’t mean there will only be “vanilla” stories, no. But we’re here to get emotions, right? I’ve gathered a selection for you that will make even the most hardened skeptic feel a little something inside. Honestly, I’ve re-watched some of these movies about five times. It’s a shame there aren’t many such masterpieces every year.

Personally, I believe a romantic movie isn’t necessarily only about “love and sighs.” It can be a cool comedy, drama, fantasy; the main thing is that it has a live nerve and chemistry. And that it leaves a pleasant aftertaste after the credits, not thoughts about where you wasted two hours of your life. So, let’s go see what I’ve dug up for you.

Romantic Movies for the Evening: Stars, Passions, and Stories That Grab You

I decided not to follow a template here. I’ve gathered both fresh hits that are on everyone’s lips and true, time-tested classics. You know, sometimes old movies can outdo any new release. But you watch the news, and there’s another star setting hearts on fire. So let’s start with the most current. And then we’ll dive deeper. The main thing is that you find something here that resonates with you!

Irish Wish (2024)

Irish Wish (2024)

This is a film about how sometimes wishes come true in a way we don’t expect at all. Directed by Janeen Damian. The lead role is played by the unexpected but pleasant Lindsay Lohan, accompanied by Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, and others (also featuring Ayesha Curry and Elizabeth Tan). Genre-wise, it’s a pure comedy, melodrama, with a touch of fantasy. Runtime is about 1 hour 33 minutes. Filmed in Ireland and the USA. And you know, on IMDb it has a 5.2. Honestly, not a masterpiece, but perfect for an evening with cocoa.

Short Description: The main character, Maddie, is in love with her best friend’s fiancé. Well, that’s a classic! Before their wedding in Ireland, she makes a wish and wakes up in the place of the future bride. Sounds like a dream? But very quickly, Maddie realizes that her true destiny might be somewhere close by, but in a different role.

Author’s Comment: Well, this is the case when Lindsay Lohan’s return to romantic comedies is an event in itself. This isn’t a movie to “ponder the eternal,” but a light, slightly naive, but very sweet story about appreciating what you have, not what you dream of. The Irish landscapes are a separate form of art. This is a movie that will definitely lift your mood if you just want to “turn your brain off.”

A Family Affair (2024)

A Family Affair (2024)

Oh, here we have heavy artillery. I don’t even know what’s more appealing here – the plot or the cast. Director – Richard LaGravenese. Actors: Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, even the legendary Kathy Bates and Liza Koshy. Mixed genres: drama, comedy, melodrama. Film production of the USA and Australia, and on IMDb it currently has a 5.4. A bit low, but the cast carries it, believe me.

Short Description: This is the story of a young girl who works as an assistant to a demanding movie star. And it would be fine, but she discovers that her mother has started… dating this boss of his. Imagine this chaos! It’s a slow-motion bomb in one family.

Author’s Comment: The relationship between a mother and daughter is always a complicated topic, and when Zac Efron bursts into it… it gets even more fun. This movie is about boundaries, about growing up, but, most importantly, about how love sometimes finds us in the most unexpected places and at the most unexpected ages. Kidman and Efron have insane chemistry, despite the age difference, and it’s honestly very refreshing.

Challengers (2024)

Challengers (2024)

And this, well, this is something more serious. This isn’t just “romance,” it’s tennis, passion, mind games, and of course, Zendaya. Director – Luca Guadagnino. In the lead roles – Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor. Genre: drama, melodrama, sports. Filmed in the USA and Italy. IMDb rating – 7.3. Now, that’s a indicator!

Short Description: A former tennis star, now a coach and the wife of a champion, Tashi, tries to pull her husband out of a slump. But everything gets complicated when his main rival becomes Tashi’s ex-boyfriend, whom she once knew. This is a real love triangle on and off the court.

Author’s Comment: This is a film that keeps you in suspense no less than a thriller. It’s not just about sports; it’s about the price of ambition and love. “I was trying to win her, she was trying to beat me,” Josh O’Connor once said about the relationship between his character and Zendaya’s heroine. And that phrase perfectly describes the whole film. I believe this is one of the best dramas of the year. A must-watch if you love intense plots.

Anyone But You (2023)

Anyone But You (2023)

Oh, this is pure, classic rom-com energy, you know! Director – Will Gluck. The main stars – Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell (also featuring Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, and Michelle Hurd). Comedy and melodrama, a co-production of the USA and Australia. IMDb gives it a 6.1. Light, fun, without unnecessary philosophizing.

Short Description: After one wonderful but failed date, two people are forced to pretend to be a couple in love at a wedding in Australia. They can’t stand each other, but they have a common goal: to make their exes jealous. And what could go wrong when you’re pretending to be in love against the backdrop of the ocean?

Author’s Comment: This is, honestly, like a breath of fresh air in the genre. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are insanely harmonious on screen! This is one of those cases where you know how it will end, but you still enjoy every minute of their bickering. A great choice if you just want to laugh and not think about work. Well, who doesn’t love a story where “hatred” suddenly turns into something else?

Your Place or Mine (2023)

Your Place or Mine (2023)

Here’s another duo I couldn’t ignore. Director – Aline Brosh McKenna. Starring the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, as well as Zoë Chao. It’s a comedy-melodrama from the USA. IMDb – 5.6. A bit low, but it’s Witherspoon and Kutcher!

Short Description: Peter and Debbie are long-time best friends who live on opposite sides of the country. She’s a single mom in Los Angeles, he’s a successful businessman in New York. They decide to swap houses and lives for a week. And, as you can imagine, this leads to drastic changes in their relationship.

Author’s Comment: Well, it’s a classic story about how we don’t notice our happiness, which was always right next to us. There’s a lot of warmth here, a lot of jokes, and I like how they show that true soul kinship can be the foundation not only of friendship but of something more. This is a very sweet and cozy movie, perfect for a lazy evening. It’s a shame such friends don’t exist in real life, right?

Falling for Christmas (2023)

Falling for Christmas (2023)

Lindsay Lohan again! She seems to have decided to return to the big screen and dominate our holiday playlists. Director – Janeen Damian. Actors: Lindsay Lohan, Chord Overstreet, George Young. Genre: comedy, melodrama. USA. IMDb – 5.2. This is “holiday movie” – it should be judged by different criteria.

Short Description: A wealthy hotel heiress who just got engaged gets into trouble. She falls while skiing and gets amnesia. She is sheltered by a charming, widowed lodge owner and his daughter. Against the backdrop of Christmas preparations, a relationship begins to develop between them.

Author’s Comment: This, you know, is like that perfect Christmas sweater – a bit kitschy, but so warm and cozy. There’s no high art here, but there is pure, unadulterated joy. This is a story about how sometimes you need to “reset” to find true love and understand what’s more important in life than diamonds. If you love the Christmas atmosphere, snow, and happy endings, then this is your story. Don’t be afraid of that rating!

Ghosted (2023)

Ghosted (2023)

Oh, this is my favorite mix! Love and action. Director – Dexter Fletcher. The cast is simply fire: Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, also featuring Adrien Brody, Mike Moh, Tim Blake Nelson. Genres: comedy, melodrama, action. USA. IMDb – 5.8.

Short Description: An ordinary guy, Cole, falls in love with a mysterious beauty, Sadie, after one perfect date. When she ghosts him, he, without thinking twice, flies to London to surprise her. And it turns out that his sweet Sadie is a secret CIA agent, and he gets caught in a whirlwind of an international conspiracy. Poor Cole!

Author’s Comment: This is, honestly, a movie where Chris Evans plays the “damsel in distress,” and Ana de Armas is the savior of the world. And I love it madly! They both have fantastic chemistry. This is a light action movie where romance is the catalyst for all the dangerous adventures. You know, when your date turns into a chase for antiquities, not a taxi. I recommend it if you want to laugh and be nervous at the same time.

Culpa mía / My Fault (2023)

Culpa mía / My Fault (2023)

This is a Spanish story, and the Spanish, you know, know how to film passion. Director – Domingo González. Starring: Nicole Wallace, Gabriel Guevara, Marta Hazas. Country: Spain. IMDb – 6.3. It’s a kind of teen drama for adults.

Short Description: Seventeen-year-old Noah is forced to leave her city, boyfriend, and friends when her mother remarries a very wealthy man. She moves into his luxurious mansion, where she meets her stepbrother, Nick, who, despite his perfect appearance, leads a double life. Of course, a wild but forbidden passion ignites between them.

Author’s Comment: This is a typical representative of the young adult genre, but honestly, a very high-quality one. It has the whole set – secrets, motorcycles, forbidden feelings. These young actors play very sincerely. This is a movie that evokes a lot of emotions – from irritation to delight. Although, you know, I’m not a teenager anymore, but it still got to me. It’s a shame such drama didn’t exist in my youth!

Perfect Addiction (2023)

Perfect Addiction (2023)

Another story with martial arts and passion. Director – Castille Landon. Actors: Manu Bennett, Ross Butler, Poppy Gilbert, Kiana Madeira. Genres: melodrama, action. USA, Germany. IMDb – 5.3.

Short Description: Saya is a mixed martial arts coach. She discovers that her boyfriend and the fighter she trains is cheating on her with her sister. Furious, she decides to get revenge and starts training his arch-enemy to defeat him in the ring. And, of course, during training, not only muscles but also feelings arise.

Author’s Comment: If you love sports dramas where adrenaline mixes with romance – this is for you. This is a story about how revenge can turn into something constructive, and love can become an unexpected reward. The film is dynamic, the actors are charismatic, and the fight scenes are very convincing. This isn’t just “a girl fell in love,” it’s about the strength of the spirit and that a woman can hold her own against any man.

The Neighbor (2022)

The Neighbor (2022)

And here is our, Ukrainian, film. Director – Natalia Pasenytska. In the lead roles: Kseniya Mishina, Denys Pasichnyk, Anna Trincher, Artemiy Yegorov. Comedy, Melodrama. Ukraine. IMDb – 5.6. It’s always nice to see our films in such lists.

Short Description: A young and ambitious career woman who can’t stand children is forced to temporarily host her friend’s daughter and become her temporary “mom.” This turns her life upside down and forces her to reconsider her views on relationships, family, and, of course, the child’s father himself.

Author’s Comment: This is a very sweet and relatable Ukrainian comedy. It’s light, with good humor, and, most importantly – it’s about us. Kseniya Mishina played her character perfectly – a cold lady who gradually thaws. This is a movie about how sometimes, to find your love, you just need to open the door to someone else’s child. Support our cinema, it’s important!

Sous Emprise (2022)

Sous Emprise (2022)

A French film, and the French, as you know, are experts in movies about passion and limits. Director – David M. Rosenthal. Actors: Camille Rowe, Sofiaan Zerman, César Domboy. France. IMDb – 5.9.

Short Description: Roxana, passionate about free diving, meets a unique and charismatic champion in this sport. He becomes her coach and lover. Their passion grows, but with it grows the danger, as they both strive for the absolute record. Sometimes the price for victory turns out to be too high.

Author’s Comment: This is a very visually beautiful film, shot against the backdrop of incredible sea landscapes. But this isn’t just a melodrama; it’s a drama about self-destructive passion and how sometimes we are ready to sacrifice everything for love or a dream. There’s no “childish” romance here; it’s all very adult. If you like movies that leave a deep mark, this is your choice.

Purple Hearts (2022)

Purple Hearts (2022)

One of Netflix’s biggest hits in recent years. Director – Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum. Actors: Nicholas Galitzine, Sofia Carson, Anthony Ippolito. USA. IMDb – 6.7. This is a very decent rating for the genre.

Short Description: A young singer, Cassie, and a marine, Luke, enter into a marriage of convenience. She needs health insurance, he needs money to pay off his debts. Their worldviews are completely different, but they are forced to live together and pretend to be in love in front of everyone. Of course, fake feelings very quickly become real when he gets injured in service.

Author’s Comment: This is a story that will melt even the coldest heart. This movie is about sacrifice, about how war affects the lives of ordinary people, and about how love can overcome all obstacles, even cynicism. This is, honestly, a very tear-jerking but bright story. You know, the kind that makes you want to hug someone after watching. I recommend it if you’re not afraid to shed a tear.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2022)

Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2022)

An adaptation of a classic, but a very refreshing one. Director – Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre. In the lead roles: Emma Corrin, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Duckett. USA. IMDb – 6.6. Classic literature is always relevant.

Short Description: Lady Connie Chatterley, the wife of a wealthy but paralyzed aristocrat, feels lonely in her huge estate. She finds solace and passion in a relationship with the estate’s gamekeeper. This is a story about social barriers, class differences, and a woman’s right to pleasure and true love.

Author’s Comment: If you love period dramas but with live emotion, then this is for you. This isn’t just about sex; it’s about freedom and how important it is to be genuine. This is a bold and very candid story that, honestly, hasn’t lost its relevance. It’s a shame that classics are so rarely adapted with such passion nowadays.

Five Feet Apart (2019)

Five Feet Apart (2019)

Get your tissues ready. Director – Justin Baldoni. Starring: Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse, Moises Arias. USA. IMDb – 7.2. A very high rating for such a seemingly simple story.

Short Description: Two teenagers, Stella and Will, who suffer from cystic fibrosis, meet in a hospital. They cannot get closer than five feet (about 1.5 meters) to each other to avoid cross-infection. But this doesn’t stop them from falling in love. This is a story about love where physical closeness is literally a threat to life.

Author’s Comment: Well, this is a movie that squeezes every tear out of you, but in the best way. It’s a very touching story about how true closeness isn’t just about touch. The actors are just incredible, and you believe every one of their feelings. This is a reminder to cherish every moment and that even five feet can feel like an eternity. Worth watching to feel how strong feelings can be.

A Star Is Born (2018)

A Star Is Born (2018)

This, you know, is already a modern classic. Director – Bradley Cooper. In the lead roles: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper himself, also Sam Elliott. Genre: Melodrama. USA. IMDb – 7.7. And I think it’s absolutely deserved.

Short Description: A country singer, Jackson Maine, struggling with alcoholism, discovers and falls in love with a talented but insecure singer, Ally. He helps her become a star, but while her career soars, his own begins to plummet due to addiction.

Author’s Comment: This is a story that I, honestly, took a long time to recover from. Lady Gaga is a revelation as an actress. This isn’t just about music; it’s about the dark side of fame, self-destruction, and how sometimes you can’t save the one you love. Here, you know, it’s not just love; it’s tragedy that purifies. And the song “Shallow” is just a masterpiece. You have to see it to understand what real acting is.

Me Before You (2016)

Me Before You (2016)

Oh, another movie that makes you think about important things. Director – Thea Sharrock. Actors: Sam Claflin, Emilia Clarke, Vanessa Kirby. Drama, Romance. UK, USA. IMDb – 7.4. Again, a very high rating.

Short Description: A young and cheerful Louisa Clark gets a job as a caregiver for Will Traynor, a young banker who became paralyzed after an accident. Will is cynical and has lost the will to live, but Louisa decides to show him that life is still worth living. But, you know, life is a complicated thing.

Author’s Comment: This is a story that asks uncomfortable questions. This isn’t just “a girl saved a boy.” It’s about how sometimes love is the ability to let go. Emilia Clarke is simply charming here! She brings so much light into this sad plot. Well, get ready, it will be painful, but it’s the kind of pain needed to understand the value of life. Wikipedia confirms that the film caused significant resonance, and that’s not surprising.

La La Land (2016)

La La Land (2016)

This, friends, is a masterpiece. Director – Damien Chazelle. Actors: Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, J.K. Simmons. Drama, comedy, music, melodrama. USA. IMDb – 8.0. And, honestly, I’m ready to give it a 10 out of 10.

Short Description: A jazz pianist, Sebastian, and an aspiring actress, Mia, meet in Los Angeles, the city of dreams. They fall in love and support each other in the struggle for their dreams. But when success comes, they have to choose between love and ambition, between career and relationship.

Author’s Comment: “City of stars, are you shining just for me?” – this song, you know, penetrates the very soul. This movie isn’t about a happy ending; it’s about choice. About how sometimes, to get your dream, you have to sacrifice your love. This is a visually, musically, and emotionally perfect film. This is, well, true art.

“The film is a celebration of the joy and pain of pursuing one’s dream, regardless of whether that pursuit ends in triumph or devastation.”

– as one authoritative review aptly put it. It’s a shame that not all dreams come true.

The Intern (2015)

The Intern (2015)

This one is a bit about a different kind of relationship, but there is romance there. Director – Nancy Meyers. Actors: Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Adam DeVine. Comedy, drama. USA. IMDb – 7.1. A very kind and bright film.

Author’s Comment: This is a film about how experience never gets old. And about how true relationships aren’t just about love, but also about respect and support. De Niro is simply charming here – he’s the perfect “grandpa-mentor.” This is an inspiring movie, and, you know, after it, you want to start a business and be a good person. Highly recommended if you love positive stories.

American Ultra (2015)

American Ultra (2015)

Oh, this is for those who love “weird” romance. Director – Nima Nourizadeh. Actors: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace. Action, comedy. USA. IMDb – 6.1. It’s pure drive.

Short Description: Mike, a loser guy who’s constantly “on weed” and works as a clerk, lives with his girlfriend, Phoebe. His life is turned upside down when he finds out he’s a sleeper agent with incredible combat skills. And now he’s being hunted.

Author’s Comment: This is just a crazy mix! But at the core of it all – Mike’s true, sincere love for Phoebe. This movie proves that even in the most absurd situation, when you’re fighting for your life, love is the main motivator. Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg have a very organic duo, honestly. This isn’t classic romance; it’s romance where instead of flowers – there are explosions. But it’s there!

The Age of Adaline (2015)

The Age of Adaline (2015)

A very beautiful and touching story. Director – Lee Toland Krieger. Starring: Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Kathy Baker. Drama, melodrama, fantasy. USA. IMDb – 7.2. This is serious.

Short Description: Adaline Bowman stopped aging after a miraculous car accident. She remains eternally 29 years old, and this forces her to live in constant moves and solitude so no one discovers her secret. But one day she meets a man for whom she is ready to risk everything and, perhaps, even become mortal again.

Author’s Comment: This is a movie that makes you think about time. Is eternal life worth the loneliness? Blake Lively is just incredible here; she’s a true style icon. This is a very romantic and philosophical story about how love is the only thing that can be eternal. Well, beauty and drama in one bottle. Highly recommended if you love fantasy with deep meaning.

About Time (2013)

About Time (2013)

My personal favorite. Director – Richard Curtis. Actors: Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy. Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Romance. UK. IMDb – 7.8. Now that’s a level!

Short Description: Tim Lake discovers that all the men in his family can travel in time. He decides to use this ability to find himself the perfect girl and make his life perfect. But very quickly he realizes that time travel can’t save you from daily problems and that love is much more than the perfect first kiss.

Author’s Comment: Honestly, this is one of the kindest and wisest films about love and life. It’s about cherishing every ordinary day. This isn’t just a rom-com; it’s a manifesto of happiness. Rachel McAdams, you know, she’s perfect for such roles. I’ve re-watched it many times, and it never gets old. If you want to laugh, cry, and realize the value of the moment – turn it on.

This Means War (2012)

This Means War (2012)

Action and comedy again. Director – McG. Actors: Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy. Comedy, action, melodrama. USA. IMDb – 6.3. This is pure fun.

Short Description: Two best friends who work as CIA superagents fall in love with the same woman – the charming Lauren. They decide to use all their spy skills to compete for her attention. Of course, this leads to a real “war” with wiretapping, surveillance, and even combat.

Author’s Comment: This is a very light, dynamic film. There’s more comedy and action here than drama, but the love triangle works 100%. Pine and Hardy are just incredible, and watching them try to “outplay” each other is a real pleasure. Well, if you’re tired of “serious” romance, this is exactly what you need!

The Vow (2012)

The Vow (2012)

Short Description: A young married couple gets into a car accident. The wife, Paige, regains consciousness but completely loses her memory of her husband. He, Leo, is forced to make his wife, who doesn’t remember him and is now a different person, fall in love with him all over again.

Author’s Comment: This is a story based on real events, and that, honestly, adds emotional weight to it. How do you make someone who doesn’t remember the shared past fall in love with you again? It’s a real feat. This is a very touching and beautiful film about what a true vow means. Tatum and McAdams are very organic in this story. This is a movie about hope, patience, and how love always finds a way, even if the brain has “reset.”

The Spy Next Door (2010)

The Spy Next Door (2010)

This one is for family viewing, with elements of romance. Director – Brian Levant. Actor – the legendary Jackie Chan, also Amber Valletta and Madeline Carroll. Comedy. USA. IMDb – 5.4.

But when he takes care of the kids, one of them accidentally downloads a secret code, and Bob is forced to save the world again, but this time with the children.

Author’s Comment: This is a very sweet family comedy with elements of an action movie. Jackie Chan here isn’t just a kung fu master but also a very cute “hapless nanny.” The romantic line here is very simple, but it’s there – and it’s about how sometimes the most difficult task isn’t to save the world, but to win the heart of the woman you love and her children. Well, perfect for a family rest.

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

This, friends, is a cult film about how life works. Director – Marc Webb. Actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Chloë Grace Moretz. Drama, comedy, melodrama. USA. IMDb – 7.7. And I think it’s absolutely deserved.

Short Description: The film tells the story of a relationship from beginning to end, but non-linearly. Tom falls in love with Summer, who doesn’t believe in true love. These are 500 days of their relationship – with all the ups, downs, expectations, and disappointments.

Author’s Comment: This isn’t just a rom-com; it’s an honest look at relationships. It’s about how sometimes we fall in love not with a person, but with an idea of them. This is a movie that makes you, well, remember your own failed romances and smile. “This is a story of boy meets girl, but it is not a love story” – this phrase from the beginning of the film perfectly describes its essence. A must-watch for everyone who has ever been “in the friendzone.”

Definitely, Maybe (2008)

Definitely, Maybe (2008)

A very intelligent and sweet story. Director – Adam Brooks. Actors: Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks. Drama, comedy, melodrama. UK, France, Germany, USA. IMDb – 7.1.

Author’s Comment: I love this “love mystery” idea. This movie is about how sometimes we get confused in our feelings and that true love needs time and the right moment. Ryan Reynolds here isn’t cynical but very sweet and touching. This is a very warm film that leaves a pleasant aftertaste and a desire to talk about love. This is, well, that perfect rom-com where there’s both a smile and a tear.

27 Dresses (2008)

27 Dresses (2008)

A pure, classic romantic comedy. Director – Anne Fletcher. Actors: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Edward Burns. Comedy, romance. USA. IMDb – 6.1. A very popular film in its time.

Short Description: Jane is a perpetual bridesmaid. She has already been to 27 weddings and has 27 horrible dresses in her closet. She is secretly in love with her boss, but when her younger sister starts dating him and asks Jane to be her maid of honor, her world collapses. And then a cynical journalist starts following her.

Author’s Comment: Well, this is a typical story about being “always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Katherine Heigl plays this role wonderfully. This movie is about learning to say “no” and putting your happiness first. It’s a funny, light, and very predictable story, but that’s why we love it. Perfect for an evening when you just want to relax and root for the characters.

Knocked Up (2007)

Knocked Up (2007)

This is a film by Judd Apatow, and that says a lot. Director – Apatow himself. Actors: Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Leslie Mann. Comedy, melodrama. USA. IMDb – 6.9. This is a very life-like story.

Short Description: The girl Alison, who is building a career in television, after one wild night with an unemployed and immature guy, Ben, finds out she is pregnant. They decide to try to build a relationship for the sake of the child, even though they are just two opposites.

Author’s Comment: Honestly, this is one of the best “imperfect” romantic comedies. It’s funny but very truthful. It’s about how true love isn’t always passion; sometimes it’s just the ability to accept the other’s flaws and take responsibility. This is, well, a movie that shows that sometimes the best stories start with chaos. Seth Rogen is just unbeatable here!

FAQ — Questions and Answers

Is it worth watching romantic movies if I’m a cynic?

Honestly? Yes. As I said, it’s not just about “vanilla.” There’s drama, action, and comedy here. It’s about relationships, and relationships are a part of our lives. Watch “La La Land” or “(500) Days of Summer.” They are very honest and not sweet.

Which movie from this selection is best for watching with a girlfriend?

Depends on her taste. If you want to laugh – “Anyone But You” or “This Means War.” If you want her to cry and hug you – “Me Before You” or “Purple Hearts.” And if you want to look like an intellectual – “La La Land.”

Why are there so many movies with low IMDb ratings on the list?

You know, IMDb is, of course, authoritative, but not always objective. Romantic comedies are often underrated. I chose those that evoke emotions and have a live plot, regardless of the rating. For example, “Irish Wish” is just light relaxation, not an Oscar contender. Sometimes you just need to relax, you know.
